It’s been a while since I last blogged on my blog and I’ve always been blogging on virtualization, food, watches etc. This time round I’m going into the IoT space.
VeraPlus is a new controller that Vera Control has just released not too long ago via pre-order and I’ve been lucky to receive the unit pretty quickly. The unit was intended to be delivered on 15 Feb 16 but it came early via Fedex on 14 Feb 16. What a neat surprise. So here it is, I will dedicate my first IoT post to this device then (though my first IoT device is really a cubictruck and raspberry pi).
In essence, Vera Plus is the next new controller from Vera Control that does not only Z-wave but also ZigBee, WiFi, Bluetooth and upgraded Z-wave to Z-wave plus support. On top of it, the hardware specifications are upgraded as well. Below are the pictures from my package and subsequently, the steps of how I’ve added it to Vera Control’s portal to control it from the Internet via Vera’s cloud system.
See System Specifications here.

Steps to add Vera Plus into Vera Control Cloud Portal
Step 1: Login to Vera Control Portal. Register if you are not a member. Connect your Vera Plus via Ethernet cable to your network (assuming you are in the same network, IP range, subnet)
Step 2: Choose Vera Edge as your controller (Understand this is not the right model but it works at the moment. I’ve contact Vera Control Support and they mentioned they will add in the necessary soon)
Step 3: Make sure your controller stays within the same IP subnet so that the browser can search and detect your new Vera Plus and you should be able to find the controller. Else you have to check out your DHCP lease to add the controller manually
Step 4: The next step prompts you to upgrade your firmware (latest as of now 1.7.1754). Click next to upgrade.
Step 5: Once done, your top right hand corner will present you with a blue “Go to Your Dashboard” button. Click on it
Step 6: Your new controller should be presented and you should also have a “Complete Setup” button. Click on it
Step 7: You should have your Vera Plus setup done after you click it and it should bring you to the main controller Dashboard.
Unfortunately I’m not able to show more screenshots as my Luup Engine on my unit seems to have some issues and support is doing a remote resolution for this. However, if I can get it resolved, if it’s not a hardware based error, I will post more in my blog.
Thanks for watching this space!
